General Description:
As an integral part of a patient-centered, physician, directed, comprehensive, accessible and continuous medical home, the purpose of Evara Health’s Behavioral Health Service program (BHSP) is to assist the primary care team in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental disorders and behavioral health needs, including children and adolescents. The Psychiatrist is seen as an active member of the patient-centered medical home model and works collaboratively to enhance patient care. The Psychiatrist’s focus is on understanding and addressing the unique emotional, behavioral, and developmental issues that affect both adults and young individuals
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Provides direct diagnostic assessment and evaluation of medical diseases and mental health conditions in adults, children and adolescents through interviews, observation and psychological testing and considers various factors and medical guidelines such as the mental health history, family dynamics and social environment to form a comprehensive understanding of their condition
- Based on his/her evaluation develops individualized treatment plans for the patients and young individuals. This may involve a combination of psychotherapy, medication management, and other therapeutic interventions
- Creates a safe and supportive environment where patients, cope with their emotional and behavioral challenges and develops healthier coping strategies and mechanisms
- Collaborates closely with other members of the medical team including medical providers, psychologists, social workers, and educators as well as a child’s family, as needed, to provide the most effective treatment
- Participates in multidisciplinary teams, and attends case conferences and other consultations to support the patient’s and child’s overall wellbeing
- Provides management of mental health conditions, including medication management, of patients (adults and children) under his/her care and cautiously assesses the risks and benefits of medication. Regularly evaluates the patient’s response to ensure the effectiveness and safety of prescribed medication
- Completes documentation in a timely manner, and includes all pertinent information relating to patient and their care
- Provides appropriate and adequate treatment to patients with ideal endpoint being remission of psychiatric symptoms
- Provides adequate education to patients regarding health conditions, treatment recommendations, medication adverse effects, and develops care plans with patient goals in mind
- Manages a broad range of treatment modalities in management of various psychiatric conditions performed both by psychiatrists and other mental health professionals for the benefit of mentally ill clients
- Orders, interprets, and reviews appropriate lab tests and other medical procedures
- Supervises treatment plans created by mental health professionals, providing guidance through active review. Participates in treatment plan reviews
- Complies with established medical practices, evidence-based standard guidelines, and standard procedures including Evara Health policies/procedures
- Shows flexibility, accepts additional duties assigned by the Chief Medical Officer and/or the executive leadership team
- Makes referrals for patients who need escalated or additional services as appropriate
- Provides consultation to Evara Health physicians and advance practice providers regarding patient management recommendations
- May provide clinical in-service training to health center staff
- Knowledgeable of and adheres to legal standards regarding agency and professional reporting and confidentiality requirements
- May provide community consultation and education services in selected situations

Minimum Qualifications:
- Commitment to working in a challenging, fast-paced, and rewarding position using the primary care behavioral health model to deliver population-based health care
- Able to develop and maintain positive working relationships with patients, co-workers, other medical provider, and vendors.
- Able to relate with people of different ethnic origins, economic status, religious affiliations or practices, and gender orientation.
- Able to operate and communicate clearly via a telephone.
- Ability to navigate and enter data into an electronic health record
- Attendance and graduation from an accredited medical school
- Attendance and graduation from an accredited residency program
- Valid and current State of Florida Medical License
- Valid and current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Registration Certificate
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in primary specialty. If Board Eligible, certificate should be obtained within 1 year from start of employment
